SAFFRON: It is noted that saffron, the most expensive spice in the world, can alleviate premenstrual symptoms in women and help in the treatment of depression.

It has long been known that saffron, one of the indispensable spices of Iranian and Mediterranean cuisine, is used to treat certain ailments besides cooking. It is used as a spice, dye, and cosmetic ingredient.

A team of researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tehran investigated whether saffron affects these symptoms.

It contains sugars, organic acids, crocin, and volatile oils. The powder obtained from the stigmas is used as a coloring, flavoring, and fragrance agent.
