The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that starting from February 21, appointments for e-passports will only be taken through the website.
In a written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was reminded that in parallel with the launch of the new type passport procedures, the website "www.epasaport.gov.tr" and the e-Passport Call Center with the phone number "00 90 216 444 30 20" have been put into service to assist citizens with information requests and passport application appointments, and the following was noted:
"In accordance with the advisory decision taken by the International Civil Aviation Organization, e-passports prepared to international standards have been made available to our citizens as of June 1, 2010. The renewal and extension procedures for old passports abroad ended on December 31, 2010, and within the country on January 31, 2011. On the other hand, our citizens holding old-type passports with valid periods can continue to use their current passports until November 24, 2015.
Due to the very significant increase and intensity in appointment and information requests directed to the e-Passport Call Center recently, in order to increase service quality, starting from February 21, 2011, the practice of taking e-passport appointments only through the website will be implemented. The e-Passport Call Center will continue to serve only by meeting the information requests of our citizens as of the specified date.
Especially for e-passport applications abroad, it is necessary to obtain an application appointment from www.epasaport.gov.tr before applying to our foreign missions. In order for our citizens not to be affected by the current intensity in passport applications, it would be gratefully appreciated if passport holders whose validity period includes 2012 and later years do not apply for the new type passport in the short term."
