The indispensable candlelight of romantic meals may be harmful to health. Experts from the University of South Carolina also stated that places where candles are lit need to be ventilated.

In experiments conducted in a laboratory environment, experts analyzing the smoke emitted from burning candles determined that candles release harmful smoke that can increase the risk of lung cancer and asthma, but they admitted that this harmful effect could be seen if the candles are used for years.

Amid Hamidi, one of the researchers, in his speech at the American Chemical Society in Washington, noted that those who frequently resort to candles to help them relax while bathing or to create a suitable atmosphere for dinner are risking their health.

Hamidi warned that the harmful effects of burning many candles simultaneously every day in unventilated spaces could be seen in the long term.
