Color therapy is among the methods that have been used for centuries. Modern medicine long labeled it an "old wives' tale"; today, however, it is back on the agenda under the names of color therapy and photon therapy. In Germany, the University of Bremen, and in the USA, the Public Health Research Center and the University of Kansas are researching the use of colors and light together with psychologists; it is applied in many fields, primarily dermatology, addiction treatment, and obesity.

A study conducted at the University of Bremen found that due to Germany's rainy and sunless climate, colors are not reflected sufficiently; therefore, the frequency of hypertension and various diseases is high. Such patients were recommended vacations to warm countries both for vitamin D intake and to benefit from the healing power of colors; a 9-month protective effect was observed in hypertension patients.

I have compiled the ancient and modern uses of colors from around the world.

White

White contains all colors; healing begins and ends with white. Its selection as a wedding dress color also stems from its symbolism of purity and beginnings. Just as snow covers nature in white, the color white cleanses diseases.

Red — Life Energy

The color red is beneficial for blood circulation and anemia. It is effective for colds, bronchitis, rheumatic pains, chills and cold sensations, anemia, and balance disorders. When you feel unhappy, you can light a genuine red candle to calm the environment. Red is the color of power and love; its excess causes selfishness. It is not preferred for school uniforms and exam settings.

It is not used for therapeutic purposes in patients with hypertension, nervous, hysterical individuals, or those with high fever. The reason men like women wearing red is due to this color's warm and loving nature that stimulates the senses. The tradition of wearing red underwear in the new year is related to red being the color of the root chakra and heart chakra; it is worn for new beginnings and innovations.

Orange — Effective for Depression

The color orange is effective for fatigue, weakness, insomnia, fear, and depression; it reinforces the etheric body. It is very good for asthma, bronchitis, intestines, and especially constipation; it also contributes to increasing breast milk. It is the color of the beginning of energies. When performing color therapy, after starting with white and cleansing, the first color applied is orange.

Yellow — Good for Headaches

The color yellow is effective against stomach disorders, diabetes, constipation, kidney ailments, gas, liver weakness, headaches, and migraines. It strengthens the digestive system and balances the solar plexus chakra. It opens the mind; it is said that intelligent people have a yellow aura. Study rooms can be in yellow and its tones (like ivory). Yellow is not recommended for the exterior of houses and for cars.

Babies with jaundice used to be covered with a yellow blanket; modern medicine now applies yellow light therapy. Patients with excessive heartbeat, tachycardia, depression, mental distress, alcohol addiction, and edema should not benefit from the color yellow.

Pink

It is the color of purity, cleanliness, and emotionality. Enveloping the aura with this color gives love, compassion, and happiness. Pink, the color of youth and spring, is suitable for bedrooms.

Green — Psychological Balance

The color green plays a very important role in resolving psychological problems. It is beneficial for insomnia, excessive excitement, back pain, high blood pressure, and irritability caused by alcohol. It is also stated that it halts progression and calms pains in stomach, lung, uterine, breast, and colon cancer. Green is the color of faith; it is said that the aura turns green while praying. For health, watch plenty of natural scenery.

Blue — The Color of Healing

The color blue strengthens the body's defense system and carries healing properties for all diseases. It calms the nervous system, reduces body temperature, increases perception. It is effective for headaches, coughs caused by nerves, sore throat, asthma, goiter, toothache, skin disorders, and insomnia. Due to its germicidal properties, it is widely used in hospitals; psoriasis and some skin diseases are treated with blue light.

The color blue relaxes the body and mind, provides emotional balance, supports communication and trust. One reason for preferring it in children's rooms is that blue and green have fly-repellent properties. The reason for its use against the evil eye is that it eliminates jealousy by showing respect to others. Its use in large spaces suffocates the environment; it is not suitable for living rooms.

According to Russian belief for those about to divorce or someone whose lover has left: a genuine blue candle is lit and placed in front of a mirror, and that person's return is wished for. The inside of the candle must be blue, not a painted candle. No harm in trying.

The color blue is not used for colds, sexual disinterest, and paralysis. Long-term use can lead to constipation and fatigue.

Indigo — Anesthetic Effect

Indigo is an active color and has an anesthetic effect. It is effective for toothaches, pains in facial muscles and sinuses, sciatica, rheumatism, ear and eye ailments. It has the power to activate the five senses. The reason for its preference in schools is its pain-relieving property, not bringing emotions to the fore, and suppressing the feeling of hunger. It is also beneficial for those taking exams and those on a diet.

Purple — The Color of the Heart

The color purple is the most suitable color for the nervous system, weakness, psychological and emotional fatigue. It calms the heart, purifies the blood; it has a significant effect in reducing fear and anxiety. It is also effective for cataracts, sciatic pains, meningitis, nerve-related headaches, bladder disorders, epilepsy, hair loss, dry cough, and asthma. It is said that before a court or an important meeting, imagining that you mentally paint that space purple ensures events develop in your favor.

Purple is a healing color; it should be used only for healing purposes. Excessive use can lead to spiritual imbalances.

Black

It is the color of swiftness, a symbol of power and might. This is why business people prefer it. The reason it is worn at funerals is that it prevents emotionality and provides fortitude.

Brown

In a computer-assisted study at the University of Kansas, the museum walls were painted different colors and the results were examined. With white walls, people moved more slowly and stayed in the museum longer; with brown walls, they moved faster and visited more places. Brown is the color of the earth; it is opposite blue and balances each other. People wearing brown accomplish a lot in a short time; it highlights creativity and realism more than imagination. It is suitable to use together with indigo during exam periods; however, it should not be overly preferred as it may give the feeling "I already didn't study, let me just go."

Rainbow for Wishes

Hang a picture of a rainbow in your room; when making a wish, concentrate on those colors, then say your wish out loud and feel its acoustics. When we were children, they used to tell us "when you see a rainbow, all your wishes come true, the wish of the one who passes under it comes true." This belief stems from the power of colors and their property of opening the senses.
