I am sharing this information solely for health purposes. A relative of mine spent months going from doctor to doctor suffering from burning and itching during urination; eventually it was discovered that the source of the problem was mold and fungus formation in the washing machine. For years I searched for a solution to this problem; I had the machine cleaned but never got the result I wanted.

Mold first forms in the detergent drawer; over time it spreads to the entire machine. The cause is usually excessive use of fabric softener, powder detergent residue in the drawer, and water accumulation. This mold poses a serious health risk: it can cause bad odor and allergies even on freshly washed laundry.

Preventive Measures

  • Do not use too much softener in your machine; never exceed the recommended amount.
  • After washing is finished, pull out the detergent drawer and dry it; leave it open constantly.
  • Allow the machine to air out; do not cover it. Mold and fungi multiply in airless environments.
  • Once a month, disinfect the machine by running it empty with bleach on a high-temperature program; this cleans all the components.

It is especially important for families with newborn babies to definitely apply these measures.
